Hello, new with prediagnosis and doubts, of course

I am 60 years old and I have been taking ADO medication for about one year (metformin 1,000 and forxiga 10) because 3 years ago I had a stent and the cardiologist believes it is appropriate to control weight, diet, lifestyle and my HbA1c.The normal type 2

And so I have been taking care of myself for 3 years and greatly improving my weight, cholesterol, etc.The HbA1c last year rose to 5.9, 5.8 and that is where they gave me the medication that I have indicated. This year, I have gone even further with my exercise and diet, I weigh 75 kg at 173 cm and my HbA1c is between 5.1 and 5.5, I see it controlled, or so I thought... I always saw that in private.

Last year I went to the social security endocrinologist and he did an antibody test that changed things:

AC Anti GAD 11.12 (>10 is positive)

Peptide C 2.78 (0.81 to 3.85)

Apparently this positive, just barely, indicates type 1 diabetes, despite the fact that the peptide is at values that indicate that pancreatic function is preserved.

The fact is that the diagnosis has changed my current focus, of course, and the first talk was about "type 1 diabetes", which implies getting pricked, greater control, and everything that I have been reading here for days, looking for information.

Given the low value, the endocrinologist saw it reasonable to repeat the test to ensure. And in that wait I am

The curious thing is that I don't have these drops or highs that I read to those of you who have been in this for a long time, and I understand that it is important to adjust well, but without taking insulin, I take my sugar a couple of times a day and it ranges between 85-110 on an empty stomach, and the rest of the day I don't notice anything, I have sometimes taken a couple of hours after eating and it is at 125 but you can see that the HbA1c seems to be in ranges with the medication.correct.... they are not the values that I read to you even remotely!

I suppose you have read this rant 1000 times, sorry, but I still don't know how this is going.A paternal aunt was diabetic 1 all her life, and it is the only thing I have known about this disease in my 60 years. I am surprised that this antibody appears now? Or was it always there without affecting it excessively?

While the next contrast result arrives, I'm catching up on reading information about what's coming up...

Many questions, and I don't understand anything, honestly.Maybe I'm still getting started and it will be progressive progress?Or will it stay that way?

Well, I appreciate any opinion and point of view, and sorry for the badge.

No sheet metal @Roccko!that's what we are for...

We read each other, we answer each other and we try to accompany each other...

First of all, take heart and wait... I understand that it's easy to say... but we don't advance much by putting ourselves in the worst case scenario.

It will only give you anxiety and this is totally counterproductive for Diabetes (be it type 1 or 2 or even if you don't have it).

Keep taking care of yourself like you do.You really have very good values and figures.Don't worry. You are doing everything right and doing your best.

You have lost weight, you have good figures on an empty stomach, during postprandial periods, you do sports, you take care of your diet... Not everyone does that!

🎯Maybe your pancreas is little by little stopping secreting insulin (MAYBE).With the care you take and if you need some insulin you will be great.Maybe at first you don't even need it.

🎯Maybe everything will remain a mystery. There are times when, depending on the laboratories, the parameters are different.

🎯Maybe they'll put a little slow down to help you and then take it away.

Tell us, don't get overwhelmed with wanting to know EVERYTHING NOW.Continue taking care of yourself (whether you are type 1, 2 or neither is essential), and count on all of us to listen to you and help you with whatever you have doubts!

Thank you very much for your words, the truth is that it is reassuring that someone with experience gives you their point of view...

Yes, for now, calm down.Slowly but surely, today I took my glucose 1.5 hours after eating and I am 85!!! The truth is that with that value, I doubt they will end up giving me insulin, ...or will they.I don't know, I see it as counterproductive until my natural one runs out, since that would make me unbalanced but... who knows!

The first thing is the repeated test.I think I'm going to go to the private one so they can do it even faster, or maybe they'll send me more than one antibody, since I've already read that there are several.

Hi @Roccko,

I understand the concern about the increased autoimmunity indicator. In any case, the glycosylated and c-peptide values are very good, so it does not seem likely that you will need exogenous insulin in the short term.Your pancreas is producing enough insulin to metabolize glucose.

If the autoimmunity indicators remain elevated when the tests are repeated, perhaps it could be LADA diabetes, in which the autoimmune system gradually destroys the beta cells of the pancreas. The progression depends a lot on each person, although in adults it usually takes several years (if you behave well).

I spent more than two years since the initial diagnosis on metformin, a low-carb diet, and exercise. The C-peptide was below the lower limit, ranging between 0.4 - 0.7 (yours is 2.78!!).The GAD 65 was at 1970 U/ml on a scale that indicates that it must be less than 5. The deviation of the GAD on the scale you mention does not seem excessive, although the endocrinologist will have to evaluate it with the new results.

Well, you'll tell us and we hope it's nothing. In any case, here we are to help you out.

Thank you so much

The truth is that the values in your case are clear, I believe that mine are much lower and it seems sensible that for the moment I do not have to take insulin..... thanks for the information, I don't know anyone.

I have decided to have tests done privately as well, so that I can have a second opinion.

@Roccko welcome to the forum!!!

You've done everything very well so far, don't worry, it may still be a bad time.

And if in the end they confirm a LADA, then nothing happens, the more you take care of yourself, the longer the pancreatic reserve lasts.I am LADA and it took me 20 months to take insulin for everything, but I gave very high numbers in GAD and IGG.And look, 11 years later I still generate a bit of insulin, my C-peptide is not 0. That helps me not have very severe hypoglycemia or very high hyperglycemia.

So don't worry, I'm sure you've dealt with worse bulls.

It looks like LADA, yes.But come on, for now it is true that it seems that I have time to see my C-peptide.

I appreciate your words and experiences, it certainly puts me at ease. That's how nice it is!
