The laboratory gives them to you.Social security gives you the number to call them if your endocrine doctor does not have one to give you.

What is expensive are the glucose strips, and those are provided by social security if you are a type 1 diabetic.

I used the Abbott brand but in Madrid they changed to One Touch and they gave me this one, and this year we changed to Dexcom, I imagine they gave me another one.

For type 1 diabetics, Libre 2 plus is usually given. For type 2 I think they are only given if they need insulin.

Those who do not do well with the Libre2 in some community can give them the Dexcom One plus.

Hello,

In Barcelona, social security offers continuous meters to type 1 diabetics, and to type 2 diabetics who are prescribed rapid insulin (they do not give it with basal insulin alone).

They use Abbot or Dexcom meters, although they didn't let me choose. They create groups of patients to do the training and when the minimum number they have established is reached, they give you the date and time for you to attend.

I understand that if your manufacturer's meters do not work correctly, you could ask your endocrinologist for a change.

I think the training thing is only to use a bomb.At least I didn't do anything for the sensor, they send them to my house and that's it.

Each community makes its contracts for the supply of continuous glucose measurement systems.

In Madrid the lastsigned contract(duration one year, extendable to four years) that was signed in October of last year was won by:

Dexcom One+

Freestyle libre 2 plus

GlucoMen iCan

Prices are a little lower than the previous contract.

Hello @Sherpa41,

Sensor training should depend on each community, or whether there are enough patients in an area or time for it to make sense to do group training.

I had two sensor training sessions last year and we were a group of 8 people. In the first there was a diabetes nurse and a Dexcom commercial, while in the second there was only the nurse.

In the first session they help you install and configure the Dexcom One+ application, they explain how the receiver works in case your mobile phone is not compatible (or does not work or you cannot use it for example at work), differences between blood and interstitial glucose, meter replacement policy, when to calibrate, ... and you leave with your first meter inserted.

After 10 days, which is when the DexCom meters expire, you have the second training in which you basically attend to exchange opinions on how each one has done, and the use of Clarity to see the history, and AGP (ambulatory glucose profile) graph. They also replace the meter and you are waiting for the first batch with 9 meters to arrive at your home.

Oh.First news.Although I see it as exaggerated.I have been using sensors on my own since the Libre1 came out in 2014 without problems.
